01 / THE PERSPECTIVE

Start with the question

Decide what the team needs to understand before selecting the charts. Leadership may need a view of the channel’s direction, while operators need detail about specific products, campaigns or stock issues. The same underlying information can support different views. A report becomes more useful when its audience and decisions are explicit.

02 / THE PERSPECTIVE

Agree on the definitions

Measures with similar names can describe different things across platforms. Identify the source, time period and meaning of each measure. Keep advertising-attributed results in context with the broader sales picture. Record the relevant changes in assortment, promotions and stock so comparisons can be interpreted with care.

03 / THE PERSPECTIVE

Include the operating context

Performance is affected by the work around the numbers. A campaign change, a product becoming unavailable or a listing improvement can alter what a period means. Give the team enough context to investigate the cause rather than jumping from a headline change directly to a conclusion.

04 / THE PERSPECTIVE

Turn the review into next steps

A useful review explains what moved, what the team believes it means and what should happen next. Assign an owner, define the action and identify the evidence that will help evaluate it. Over time, this creates a shared record of decisions and learning. Reporting then becomes part of running the business, rather than a separate exercise in producing documents.
